Post Note: “More than Usher: stigmatizing STDs is bad for everyone”

  • I almost included an additional segment about gonerrhea. While it is curable, there was a short-lived media freakout about the disease becoming a “superbug”, incurable by antibiotics. However, a cure has since been found.

  • Something I stressed in the article is that STIs can be managed or cured incredibly well only if a person has access to healthcare. This is one example where we have the technology and capability to make millions of people’s lives better, yet we simply choose not to do so.
  • It should be noted that although Planned Parenthood lists public lice with other sexually transmitted infections, it is technically not an infection.
