I’ve never met a single person in my whole life who gets offended at someone telling them to have a Merry Christmas.
To be very clear, I choose to say, “happy holidays” in December. It’s more inclusive to all of the other holidays in the month, and it is easier to say that than to offer separate greetings for both Christmas and New Years. I think the right-wing freakout about the so-called “War on Christmas” is absurd, as I have written about here.
But even so, I have never met someone who actually gets offended by hearing the term, “Merry Christmas” uttered. In the United States, 92% of people–Christian or not–celebrate Christmas in some way.
The United States is a large country, so I don’t doubt that someone is truly offended at this. But, I do question how many people actually fit that description. Where are they hiding!?
