I’m currently in the process of moving, so I won’t be blogging regularly. I have prewritten a series of posts critiquing the so-called “New Atheist” movement. Religion is complicated. To separate religion from culture, history, economics and social conditions is to do a disservice to your audience. How do you talk about radical Islam without talking about colonialism in the Middle East? How do you criticize right-wing Christianity in the United States without looking at its corporate financiers? How do you blame female genital mutilation on Islam without taking culture and geography into account?
