In June, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services quietly announced a new task force that will investigate “bad” naturalization cases, wherein the agency will hire dozens of lawyers and immigration officers “to find U.S. citizens they say should not have been naturalized, to revoke their citizenship, and then eventually deport them.”
Republicans for years have claimed, “We’re not against immigrants, just undocumented immigrants.” It was still a terrible–and dishonest!–thing to say, but that was their defense. Then Trump was elected, and the Republican congress set out to pass a bill to limit legal immigration. They defended this by claiming it was to protect U.S. citizens.
Now they’re going after citizens, too.
