General rule

As a general rule, my opinions of people do not change after their death. Posthumous editorials about individuals’ lives are sometimes convincing, but otherwise my opinion usually doesn’t change a whole lot. Unless there’s a good reason to, I don’t feel the need to kick people while they’re down, but don’t expect me to root for someone I’ve never rooted for in the past.

This and this are the best posthumous pieces on McCain that I’ve seen. This is a good analysis from when he was alive. Mandatory reading.
